We see friends get promotions, buy houses, post highlights and accomplishments on social media. It's natural to look at them and think "wow, they really have their shit together." Then we look at our own lives full of chaos, unanswered questions, and goals that feel so far away, and we feel like we're behind.
The pressure to be a "finished product" is one of the heaviest burdens we carry.
But the truth is, nobody has it all figured out.
In therapy, we talk a lot about self-compassion. And a big part of that is giving yourself permission to be a "work in progress." That means:
It's okay to change your mind. What you wanted five years ago doesn't have to be what you want today.
It's okay to be a beginner. You can pick up a new hobby and be terrible at it, just for the joy of learning and having fun.
It's okay to say "I don't know." You don't need an immediate answer for every big life question. Or to even know what you want right now. It's okay to sit with the uncertainty for a while.
You are a person, growing and evolving every single day, and that process is something to be honored.
If you're feeling the weight of needing to have it all together, please know you don't have to carry that alone. Therapy can provide a space where you can show up exactly as you are to explore what your next chapter might look like.
